Curriculum is said to
be dynamic, continuous and flexible. Variety of strategies must be appropriate
to the different kinds of students, teachers as well as students should be
adaptable to change. Let me show you my best and one of the most influential teacher
way back in 4th year high school.
Mr. Umali, a
math teacher who brings to all his student the real application of mathematics
in daily life. Fun of sports especially
in basketball, good in playing chess and heart whelming person. Year 2014, He was our teacher. He is a strict, serious, and frightening
instructor as it said by the others. But this is not a hindrance for me to be
afraid of him like others, instead I treat it as a challenge for me to be able
to learn more in mathematics. For me,
he is one of the most excellent and good teacher in mathematics. He only used
meter stick, chalk, and eraser in teaching and he let his students to have a
chance to answer on the board. You will experience the nervousness every time
that you think you will make a mistake in front of him and being embarrassed in
front of the class. He is good in questioning in a sense that you will hardly
think of the answer. But
I am thankful for him because he builds up my self-confidence to study hard and
learn more in mathematics.
Quality
of learning is very important to be able to cope up and to adopt the modern
technology we have. Everything lies on our mentor and that is why I chose this
person as one of the best teacher I've ever had in my high school life. Aside
from the different teaching approaches and techniques that he had mastered, consideration
of the fact that there was diversity of learners to be given much priority
according to him. His daily lesson became more interesting because prior
knowledge of students and putting the situation in real life situation makes a
difference. Every student has a chance to express himself/herself ideas. Mr.
Umali has the ability to make his lesson mastered by all and the daily result
was based in above average percentage of the daily evaluation, quizzes, board work
and monthly examination. According to him the new K to 12 curriculum to be
implemented in a manner that student will not suffer, it may be done slowly,
surely and seriously. Cooperative learning is one
aspect of the new curriculum given focus and student centered may not be
neglected because of diversity of learning to be considered. Not all schools
can immediately provide everything for new curriculum. Lack of books, equipment’s
and modern teaching equipment’s like computers considered as major problems
especially in provinces remote areas.
